Applications built with Windows Forms can be very accommodating to persons with disabilities. Windows® Narrator can recite entire documents. Windows Magnifier can zoom in on the mouse cursor and follow focus. Each of these applications can interact with other applications in a unique way because of the .NET Framework’s AccessibleObject class. Through AccessibleObject, applications can open themselves up to Narrator and Magnifier and allow them to see what’s contained within each object on the screen. Other instances of AccessibleObject are created to represent smaller UI elements for assistive technology to follow.
Several of our controls use the AccessibleObject, and are fully accessible to applications such as Narrator and Magnifier. Keep in mind, this technology is useful only for visual controls and components; some Ultimate UI for Windows Forms controls and components are not visual, and therefore do not implement accessibility.
