Hi, I posted to the "configurators" forum that I had a pretty poor experience with VS 2017 after installing Infragistics_Xamarin_20171_WithSamples. What happened is that VS would lock up any time I tried to open an xml-based file (xaml or config).
I captured a callstack that pointed directly at the Infragistics configurator. So I took a fair crack at applying the latest update to the configurator (it showed up in "extensions and updates"). But this didn't fix the freeze-ups either and the callstacks still ended up the same when opening my xaml files.
Finally I had to uninstall XF 20171 altogether (it being 2AM in the morning). But I'd love to try XF again at a more basic level. Is there a way to install it *without* the configurators and maybe wait to use those until the next release. Any tips would be appreciated.
Hello dbeavon,
The Infragistics control configurator for Xamarin is a plug-in for Visual Studio that is installed with our Xamarin product, and so while I do not believe there is a way to install our product without this plug-in, this does not mean you need to use it in Visual Studio. If you visit the Tools => Extensions and Updates menu in Visual Studio, you should be able to see an entry for the Infragistics Xamarin.Forms Control Configurator. Here, you can either disable this plug-in or uninstall it and you should be able to continue using the Xamarin.Forms controls normally.
I am rather unsure why Visual Studio 2017 is locking up on you when using the control configurator, to be honest, and I will be speaking to our Xamarin tools team about this, referring them to this forum post to see if they have any additional information for you on this.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns on this matter.
Sincerely,AndrewAssociate Developer
Thanks for the update Andrew. I had cross-posted this to the configurators group hoping that one of the two would show up immediately (the moderation of these groups was preventing me from seeing my posts). Karl also suggested uninstalling the configurator so I am going to try that this weekend. Unfortunately I don't get to use XF during my day job (yet).
After getting VS 2017 into the state it was, I uninstalled all the Xamarin.Forms and IG.XF stuff in a panic. I had seen other people complaining about stability problems in visual studio when xamarin tooling was introduced, so I was suspicious of all the related plugins. ... But I will give it another shot soon. Thanks.
