Hi,

First:

Is there any example code for the xamChart ? I try to use scatter XY lines...

Second:

I have to draw 1000 to 1500 points with real-time acquisition, 1 points every 50ms...
I made a spline line with 1500 points: it takes 5s to redraw the chart on windows resizing !

Note 1: Last month, I evaluated the Infragistics chart (from NetAdvantage for Windows Form2007 Vol 3) which was too slow (according to my needs). The competitors (Dundas Chart, ChartFX and Nevron Chart), were 5 to 10 times faster...
Note 2: I bought NetAdvantage for Windows Form. I use and appreciate the following components: Ribbon, DockManager, Grid, Excel Exporter, Print. I will like to update to wpf version, but I must wait until these components are available (especially Ribbon and Dock Manager).
Note 3: my PC = Dell Optiplex GX745, Pentium D CPU 3GHz, 1Go RAM

What can I do ?

To improve performence RefreshEnabled property has to be used. This is a sample which creates scatter chart:

thank you to have answered.

Unfortunately, that improves only one part of the problem: in my mind, the biggest concern comes from the slowness of resizing: when I resize the windows form (with real time aquisition ended, and so, no more point appended), it takes 5 to 6 secondes to redraw the chart.

I want to add a dock manager to my form: the chart will be docked into a panel, and a datagridview will be docked into anther one.
Our customers resize the docked components frequently (regarding they makes analyses, or search for particular results).
It is impossible to say to them "don't worry, you have only to wait for 5seconds, the chart will be redrawned..."

I do not understand why it is so slow, especially for a simple resizing without data points modification !

May be another idea ?

I am having a very similar issue and maybe I am just pushing the charting system too hard. But I have used TeeChart for years and recently decided to move out for some more flashy looking charts.

I am plotting data that is coming to me every 50ms for well over 2500 data points on a single line over 100+ lines and I see the exact same 5 second or more refresh time on a chart resize.

My concern is that in the old Win32 days I could find a chart that didn’t lag doing this type of plotting and that was before they added DirectX support like in WPF.

To increase speed I dropped the points on each line down to 500 instead of 2500. This is not ideal for the type of data I am presenting but I could live with it, however I still see the same 5 second or so hang on redraw.

I know this is beta and usually betas are not performance optimized but I am curious if there is work on this speed issue or even if you see it as an issue.

Hi Michael,

Please, try to use new Evaluation version of xamChart. You can download it together with new NetAdventage for WPF. Do you use 2D or 3D charts?

I use only 2D charts on a Scatterplot
Also the file you had me download might be the same version I already am using it seems to have the same version number on the zip

Hi,

I made a new test with the .Net Advantage for WPF Vol. 2, wich is a release version.
I agree entirely with Mickael: it is still painfully slow !!!!
Having said that, I remember that the windows form version was also slow...

To my mind, I believe that infragistics don't know how to design a fast scatter chart with lot of points...
I tryed "ChartFX for WPF (beta)" from SoftwareFX, and it is great, except the price wich is very expensive...

Moreover, I had another surprise : No Pan nor zoom available in this version!
I stop the tests.
