I have found a way to do the above. I have changed the TodayButtonCaption resource string to the format required.

But to add to the above question is it possible to show the Date in '1-Jan-2009' format when the datetime editor is in Edit mode, i searched the blogs and found that we have to put a mask but a mask that supports this format is currently not available. However the posts i read were raised in jan - March 2009 , so is there any change to this, i mean has a new mask for this format('1-Jan-2009') been added in the march release i.e. Version 9.1

No, currently there is no mask section (the complete list is here) that will display Day or Month names - the mask is always shown while in edit mode. You should submit a suggestion for adding support for Day/Month name sections.
