Style crosshair axis annotations

Hi,

I have a crosshair layer with x- and y-axis annotations displayed. Is it possible to style these? More specific, I would like to display the x-axis annotation above my xamdatachart and the y-axis annotation on the side opposite to the y-axis itself to avoid to hide the values on the x- and y-axis.

Hello Hilma Maria,

After doing some research, I determined that while the CrosshairLayer provides some properties to style the XAxis and YAxis Annotation Labels, such as XAxisAnnotationBackgroundProperty, XAxisAnnotationTextColorProperty , etc. (please see this link for further reference), configuring their position is currently not provided out of the box. What I can suggest is submitting a new product idea. You can suggest new product ideas for future versions (or vote for existing ones) at http://ideas.infragistics.com.

There are many benefits to submitting a product idea:

-          Direct communication with our product management team regarding your product idea.
-          Notifications whenever new information regarding your idea becomes available.
-          Ability to vote on your favorite product ideas to let us know which ones are the most important to you.  You will have ten votes for this and can change which ideas you are voting for at any time.
-          Allow you to shape the future of our products by requesting new controls and products altogether.
-          You and other developers can discuss existing product ideas with members of our Product Management team.

Steps to create your idea:

1.       Log into the Infragistics Product Idea site at http://ideas.infragistics.com (creating a new login if needed).
2.       Navigate to the product / platform channel of your choice (e.g. WPF, Windows Forms, ASP.NET, HTML5 / Ignite UI, iOS / NucliOS, etc.)
3.       Add your product idea and be sure to be specific and provide as much detail as possible.

The Product Idea site puts you in the driver’s seat and allows you to track the progress of your ideas at any time, see how many votes it got, read comments from other developers in the community, and see if someone from the product team has additional questions for you.

Hello Hilma Maria,

Styling the CrosshairLayer AxisAnnotations and more specifically moving them would not be accomplishable neither through xaml styling, nor code-behind. Changing the position of the CrosshairLayer AxisAnnotations is considered to be a new product idea.

I see. I have another problem with the annotations - Since I have multiple line series, the curves sometimes intersect each other. When they do, and when they are close to each other, the y axis annotations can not be read sometimes because one value is on top of the other. Is there any way to solve this? See attached picture.

Hello Hilma Maria,

I have been looking into your question and, as already mentioned, changing the CrosshairLayer axis annotations is not available out of the box, since they are dynamically drawn paths on a canvas. Their position on the axes is by design and is uniform across other Infragistics products’ chart components as well.

What I can suggest is considering the Item Tooltip Layer in addition to the CrosshairLayer in order to avoid labels over the axes values. The Item Tooltip layer allows to define a tooltip template, where the XAxis and YAxis values can be shown, for instance. The tooltip will be displayed on hovering over the particular series. Please, find attached a small sample, where a XamDataChart using crosshair and item tooltip layers is demonstrated.
