After upgrading to 8.2, all the grids in our system (50+) have shorter-width columns.The "Drag a column header here..." message has also been shortened.

Just found out that the group by label gets cut off when the TextRenderingMode property is set to GDI.
You should Submit an incident to Infragistics Developer Support.
Sorry, I was on vacation last week. :)
The good news is that the issue will be fixed in the next hot fix.
