this could be a long shot, but is it possible to configure an ultraGrid to be upside down? (i.e, the column headers at the bottom and the rows going up,?)

No, the grid does not support this. You should submit a feature request to Infragistics. Request a Feature or Component
Was an incident logged for this? Is this feature implemented or is expected? If so let me know the release version when it is available.
As far as I am aware, there has been no official announcement regarding whether this feature will be implemented. The list of features we add to NetAdvantage each volume release are based in large part on the number of requests for a particular feature. So if you have not already done so, you should submit a feature request to Infragistics.
