Help Documentation updates ???
posted

First, I downloaded the NetAdvantage Documentation for 4/4/2009.  When I opened the Zip file, I noticed that the Last Modified Dates and the files sizes were EXACTLY the same as the Documentation I downloaded last December (12/2008).  Has anything been update in the documentation or is there some other reason the last modified dates and file sizes would be exactly the same?

Second, If I install the "new" documentation, does it overwrite or remove the old documentation from the Visual Studio Help?

Third, How can I remove documentation packages from the VS help that I don't want?

    Hello,

    Docs Version

When downloading the Help, just make sure that when you enter the "My IG >> Keys and Downloads" section, that you click the 2009 Volume 1 version of NetAdvantage that you own and then scroll downwards to the Help download link. It is possible that you clicked on the 2008 V3 version of NetAdvantage and then downloaded that help version. If this is not the case, let me know.

    Docs Install

Whenever installing the local help, the last one that you install is the one that gets registered. In other words, if you install the local help for the NetAdvantage 2008 V3 version and then later on you install the 2009 V1 version of the local help, the 2009 V1 version is the one that is officially registered on your PC.

    Uninstalling Help

The easiest way to completely uninstall the Docs for a paricular NetAdvantage volume is to go to the Add/Remove programs section of the control panel and locate and uninstall the Help that you do not want.

    Additional Thoughts

It is possible that you may be supporting multiple versions of NetAdvantage (e.g., 2008 V3, 2009 V1). In this case, I think you would be better off to just use the latest help. Of course the newer Docs will contain new controls and new features that do not exist in the older product, however, you can always quickly skim through the What's New section in the help so that you know what the older volume does not have.  The benefit of using the latest help is that you also get improvements to existing controls. Aside from documentation for what's new in the latest volume, additional documentation is always added for the existing controls. The Docs team processes customer requests for additional documentation that gets entered into the help each release. Using the latest version allows you to have access to the latest content.
