Hello,
We are looking for a reporting solution for WinForms. One of the key required features is a report designer that the end user can use to create and/or modify reports with without extensive IT-knowledge.
The IT department would provide several pre-approved data sources which the user would then be able to use to create his own reports with.
Is this a feature that is planned to add in the NetAdvantage Reporting ? And if so, is there a time-table available with estimate when it would be available ?
Kind regards,
Michael
Hi Michael,
We currently don't support hosting the Report Designer outside Visual Studio. However, it's technically possible to do it, and it's something that we plan to do in the future. We don't have a date for it, but it won't be for 12.2.
Regards,
Andres
Thanks for the update !
Are there any tutorials or such available to host the designer outside Visual Studio ?
No, there are not. When I said 'technically possible' I meant for us, not for you ;).
Basically, as we wrote the designer from scratch and it does not have any strong dependency with VS, we can make it work outside VS, but we need to adjust the UX so it can be used by end-users, build our own end-user-friendly property grid, adjust the API so it's easy to consume from your side, etc.
Since these postings are 6 months old, I wonder if there is any progress in providing an End User Designer. I am a very happy ActiveReports user since the first release of AR. In the next weeks I will start upgrading a very large project from AR6 to AR7, but if IG will provide similar functionality, I would not mind starting to use IG reports and then, next to NetAdvantage being dependant on only one tool provider.
Best regards,Willem
Hi Andres,
Is there any plans to make the designer available for end users?
Thanks,
Josemaria
We are here in the reporting forums. On the totally renewed Infragistics website, I cannot find the word "reporting" anywhere anymore. Therefore I guess they dropped reporting entirely.
That was intentional. Since we do not sell reporting as a separate product, it is just part of the core platforms from a marketing sense, and we currently have no plans to distribute the designer in its current form as an end-user tool. However, I wouldn't mind understanding more of your reporting needs, as we have a few things in the works around reporting. Would you mind taking this thread offline so we can email? If yes, shoot me an email at jasonb@infragistics.com I've love to talk to you.
Thanks
Jason
Just catching up on this. Thanks for the explanation on your product road map Jason. After speaking with a few folks at my company an end user designer may not be a deal breaker for us.
