We have used IgGrid and igHierarchical grid with virtualization in our project, we are encountering UI issue when there is minimal number of records.
i.e say the grid size is some 500px and when we bind data which has only one row, then the row length is getting set/expanded to the available height of the grid.

PFA sample having one row.
We are using 2013.2 IgniteUI version and testing on IE10. We should be able to run the same on IE11 as well.
In the attached sample you can just try to expand the column size manually to see the row length is getting expanded to the grid height.
However is our sample as soon as we bind we are seeing that the row height gets adjusted to the grid height itself when it has lesser number of rows.
eg: one row - height of row will be 100%of grid height
2 rows - height of rows will be 50% each of grid height and so on
