Memory impact of adding dimensions
posted

Hi,

I have a grid based off a flatdatasource built from a datatable with 47 rows, 23 dimension columns and 13 measure columns.

It loads in fine but when I add more than around 10 expanded dimensions, it hits a memory exception (and this is on a 12Gb Win7 machine). I also tried adding and expanding dimensions on the Handling Large Data sample and that too broke after around 5 or 6 dimensions.

9 years old Excel 2003 can quite happily build a Pivot Table based on 65,000 rows with 20+ dimensions and 20+ measures.  Can we expect this control to be able to match up on performance?

Is there a limit to the number of dimensions that can be added to a pivot grid?
