So whenever you unpin a panel, the panel flies over to the side and a button appears in the border of your application somewhere. Hovering on the button brings the panel back.
My question is whether you can change the color of the narrow panel that the button lives on. Right now it's a blue-ish white color for me, and I need it to be a dark gray.
It looks pretty out of place as is, but I haven't been able to figure out how to style it.

I have been looking into your question and I can suggest you create a new style for the UnpinnedTabArea and change the color from it. In order to achieve this you can try the following style:
<Style TargetType="{x:Type igDock:UnpinnedTabArea}" >
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Red"></Setter>
</Style>
