    try this

    FieldSortDescription     categorySort = new FieldSortDescription();
    categorySort.Direction =     ListSortDirection.Descending;
    categorySort.FieldName =     "GroupCategory";
    categorySort.IsGroupBy =     true;
    xamDataGrid1.FieldLayouts[0].SortedFields.Add(categorySort);
