I would like to be able to remove the active selected tab without the tabcontrol automatically selecting another tab in the tab group (i.e. there would be no tab selected). Is this possible?
It's not okay to even select another tab for an instant because doing so causes code in the tab to execute that I don't want running.

I don't think this is possible. I'm pretty sure that if the Tab control has any tabs, then one of them must be active.
Just in case I am wrong, try setting the ActiveTab to null before you remove the tab and see if that works. I suspect it won't, but it can't hurt to try.
