Should one use the UltraGrid rather than the ReportViewer control or is there a better Infragistics-based option?
posted

Dear Infragistics Power Users --

Please help.

Should one use the UltraGrid rather than the ReportViewer control or is there a better Infragistics-based option?

I am currently using the ReportViewer control that is built-in to Visual Studio 2012, and my reports are each bound to a DataSet object, etc.

I would rather use an Infragistics control if it will be better or easier or faster, compared to the ReportViewer control.

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum for such a question. It is just that the UltraGrid control seems to pretty much have all the core functionality of the ReportViewer control, for my purposes, and the UltraGrid seems to handle things better, so I think maybe the UltraGrid is a good alternative over the ReportViewer control, for my needs. Plus we do not want to buy anything else.

What do you think? What do you recommend? What would you do?

Please advise.

Thanks.

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for your interest in using Infragistics.

As you may already know we offer our own Reporting software. It offers report designing features including, Winforms, XAML and HTML5 report viewers. You can learn more and even download our free trial as a standalone product, which is part of our Infragistics Ultimate bundle.

Our Reporting software ties together with the rest of our toolset and expands on that of Visual Studio's ReportViewer. You can access the ReportViewer as you would a control/component within the Toolbox of VS.

I would strongly recommend using it if you are already familiar with Crystal Reports or SQL Reporting Services.

The UltraGrid is also a great control to use if your solely working on Winforms projects. The WinGrid can access the same data as your Report Viewer but does not have the design features found in Reporting. For more information please visit our documentation here:

If you are looking for a control and not a viewer then the WinGrid may be what you are looking for. Let me know what you think and if you have any additional questions feel free to let us know.
