Save UltraWinGrid.DisplayLayout over DataSource changes

Hello, I can configure columns of an UltraWinGrid at design time, but whenever I set the DataSource this configuration will be overwritten even though the DataSource matches the configuration. Lets say I have defined a Band with two colums "customer" and "amount" - a string and an decimal value. At design time I set the CellActivation of column "customer" to NoEdit and the MaskInput of column "amount" to "-nn.nn". The scale of the amount in the DataSource is 28. When I set this DataSource at runtime my configuration will be changed by inference from the DataSource, i.e. the aoumnt is displayed with 28 decimal places and customer is editable. Can I avoid this? I know that this will be a problem, if the DataSource doesn't match the design time schema but I can presume that it does. TIA, Frank

HOWTO:How can I define columns in the grid at Design-time and bind them at run-time so that some fields of the data are excluded from the grid?

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply but this is not exactly what I asked for :). The column configuration (MaskInput, CellActivation, Width, Header.Caption etc) is still inferred from data source. I knew about SetDataBinding before, but that fulfils not my goals. I think Infragistics should supply an approach that saves the developer from setting the whole config every time the when data source needs to be resetted. TIA, Frank

Hi Frank,
I'm not sure what you mean. There are save and load methods on the DisplayLayout so you can save the layout to a file and load it back again.

Hi Mike,

assume the following workflow.
1. set data source to an UltraGrid (e.g. oders for customer Mike)
2. configure the columns of the UltraGrid (e.g. total amount with 2 decimal places, NoEdit for total amount, Header.Caption for data column "mAmount" shall be "Amount" and so on)
3. set another data source with the same schema to the same UltraGrid (e.g. orders for customer Frank)
4. do the same configuration as in step 2

I'm looking for a way without doing the same configuration stuff in step 4 - I did it in step 2.
I cannot save the whole configuration in a file every time I load new data.
All I want is to prevent the UltraGrid from inference and hold my configuration.

Typically, what I will do is set up the column configuration in the InitializeLayout event of the grid. This way the same code gets called every time you set the grid's DataSource.
If that won't work for you for some reason, then you should save the grid's Layout prior to step 3 and then load it afterward. You say you can't do this, but why not? What's the problem with it? You don't have to save to a file, you can save to a stream in memory.
