Hi,
I'm currently doing some testing with the JAWS screen reader and our application which makes use of the Ribbon control. Unfortunately I have hit a problem with the way the ApplicationMenu tools are being read. JAWS seems to insist on reading out "ButtonDropDownGrid" as I cursor through each option (I'm guessing this is the AccessibleRole that is being set on the menus)!
Is this likely to be an issue within JAWS?
Thanks,
Andy
Hello Andy,
I tested your sample with JAWS 11.0 and I see what you mean , I have research it more deeply and at this point I am not able to say if this is related to Infragistics or JAWS, so I have created a case for you with ID CAS-56446-JKK0RF, so we will be able to investigate this behavior with our Development Team. I will update you via the case as soon as I have more information for you.
Thank you for your patience.
I have attached a sample project which is a basic form with a Ribbon and a couple of sub menus on the Application Menu.
I have been testing this with JAWS screen reading software and I'm finding that it is having difficultly reading the sub menus. To replicate this you will need to use the keyboard and shortcuts only i.e. no interaction with you PC cursor.
So, if you go into the 'Test 1' popupmenu and then the 'Test 9' popupmenu JAWS will not read the 3rd level buttons when you cursor through them. At best it will just say the Shortcut key that fires the action!
The only other applications I use with a similar style would Office 2007 and JAWS works fine in that. I understand this could be a JAWS issue but I just want to know for sure!
Thanks for your help,
Could you please be more specific about your scenario, could you please send me a code snipped or sample where I will be able to reproduce this behavior and test it. Also could you please tell me if you tests this with some Microsoft Software products?
I am waiting for your response.
Sincerely,
Hristo
