i have a gantt chart that is linked to the same data source as an ultragrid. i want to be able to make the chart display the y axis in the same order as the grid. currently it is reverse of the grid. also, can i get the chart to change its order when the grid is sorted?

When displaying the gantt chart, the first task of the first series will always be on the bottom, meaning the data will be displayed bottom to top. Unfortunately, right now there's no way around that. If you reversed the order in your datasource, you'll get the order you were looking for, but the grid items might be reversed. You might want to try having 2 identical datasources, but have one be in reverse order.
Also, i don't believe sorting items in the grid changes the underlying data source, so this will have no effect on the gantt chart. If, after sorting the grid, you do the same in the chart's datasource and rebind the chart, then the chart will reflect those changes as well.
