Adding Custom Header Template - Loses Built-in Sort Functionality

Why when I add my custom template for a column header, I lose the built-in sorting functionality...??

All the other columns still work correctly, when i click them they sort as you'd expect, but now when i click my custom header, nothing happens... what do i need to do to get this working??

    Can anyone answer this, as it'd be great to be able to add a more customized header to the column. I started pumping in totals into the header as I couldn't find a way to make them the top row in the grid.

    Strange thing is that, the column is able to be sorted as long as i click on the header text, but the div that i added with the grand total, clicking on those doesn't perform a sort as you'd expect.
