Performance needs to be Improved > 2mins to load the WARP sample !!!
posted

I must admit to having been more than a little disappointed by the performance of Infragistics for ASP.NET controls.

When I have raised the matter in the past with infragitics, they have tended to say that it was either my application was slow or they just simply skipped over what is essentially extremely important to me and my internet users.

So with the release of 2008 vol 1, I decided to see if there had been any improvement.  To be scrupuliously fair, I decided to check infragistics own sample applications located at http://samples.infragistics.com/2008.1 .

I have not been through all the samples yet, but I did a quick check on the "At a Glance" section.  Here are my results:

Office Look and feel: Initial Page Load 18 seconds:  VERY SLOW

Office2007 Chart Presets: Initial Page Load 10 seconds: SLOW - but generally acceptable.

Charting with Ajax: Initial Page Load 5 seconds; GOOD - acceptable.

Ajax Linked Controls (Using WARP Panel): Inital page load 24 seconds - EXTREMELY SLOW - UNACCEPTABLE - USERS WILL NOT WAIT.

Ajax Linked Controls (Using WARP Panel): Select from dropdown -ajax query - 2 MINUTES AND 15 SECONDS - USER THINKS MACHINE HAS HUNG.

Customer Viewer (Ajax): Initial Page Load: 16 seconds: VERY SLOW.

I strongly suggest that infragistics takes a long hard look at both their samples and their controls.  Any control sample that takes longer than 20 seconds needs serious attention.

Those controls that take longer than 20 seconds are not fit for use on the internet today.

Even 20 seconds is slow by todays standards, so once the glaring absurdities have been cleared, the target performance for all controls and samples should be less than 10 seconds.
