Web splitter control area is blank after deployment to webserver

I deployed an asp.net2.0 app to to our web server.  The app runs fine in development but the splitter control will not render on the server.  The controls outside of the splitter render ok but the splitter area is blank.  I'm using 2009.1 CLR2.0. 

I installed ajax extensions 2.0 just before the deployment. 

I've reviewed and followed all documentation referenced in the forums and knowledgebase regarding deploying controls. 

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
