Over that last few days I have been attempting to ascertain from Infragistics support (EU) what requirements are needed on a client’s computer for them to enjoy scroll-on-demand features.
For the sake of clarity I have copied in the relevant email messages between myself and Infragistics (sorry in advance).
My initial question was as follows:
We want to utilise scroll on demand which I belief requires the attribute Browser="XML", but I recall from previous forum threads (can't find them now) that this attribute requires some dependencies on the client computer. Is this still the case and if so could you identify the dependencies? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this matter.

Thank you for submitting your query with Infragistics. From the description of your issue I am in confusing about the Scroll on Demand property, as such there is no inbuilt Scroll on Demand property is available. However, there are some other properties which will help you to scroll the UltraWebGrid rows on demand. You can refer the following online help articles to enable the desired functionality. Please refer the online help article at the link below: <Links removed – pointed to how to use said functionality>

I of course wasn’t happy with their reply and replied myself:
Thanks for responding so quickly to my support request, however I belief you may have misunderstood the nature of my request.I already know how to use the xml scrolling and load-on-demand features (but thanks for the links anyway), my issue is a concern that potential customers may have missing components that are required by xml scrolling.I read an Infragistics forum post recently, pointing out that some AJAX related features of the UltraWebGrid required clients to have certain components (MSXML I believe) installed on their local systems. I was hoping that you would be able to confirm if this is the case with XML scrolling and/or load-on-demand and what exactly is needed by the clients, so we can advise them accordingly.

Based on this modified request, Infragistics then replied with the following:
Thank you for getting back to me with more information regarding the issue. If you are using .Net Framework 2.0 (VS2005) as IDE, there is no need to download any other component to enable XML scrolling. As, when you install VS2005 the MSXML automatically install with it and there is no need to install it separately. Thanks for your co-operation regarding the issue.
Now call me stupid, but did I even ask about the developer machine?
Simply all I want to know is if scroll-on-demand needs any extra components installing (and what versions) on an external clients system; Bearing in mind that the client may not be a developer but just a standard business user with a standard (default) install following their own companies predefined IT policies.
Can anyone reading this thread help me?
The supported environments are listed here: http://es.infragistics.com/support/documentation.aspx#SupportedEnvironments. These include IE 6 & 7 and Mozilla Firefox. From personal experience, Firefox 2.0 and IE 7 work without any custom modifications to the standard broswer configurations as long javascript is turned on. As to your concern with MSXML, I believe that it is installed with IE 6 & 7.
I hope this addresses your concerns.
Best,
Ed
