Right now, if you select a few leaf level members from a dimension hierarchy, all the parent levels will get implicitly selected as well.
This will make the pivot grid show the information as follows:
As you can see, showing all the different levels of the hierarchy will consume a considerable amount of screen estate. Have you considered allowing users to view only the selected leaf level members in the grid?
One option would be hiding the unwanted levels from the grid. However, I'm not really happy with this approach as it means the generated MDX query still includes them and Analysis Services has to do some extra work.
Another option would be having flat hierarchies in the dimensions. This is not very practical for most dimensions. Navigating for example a date dimension with 10 years worth of dates would be extremely inconvenient.
I found a somewhat related post at Hide "All" section but unfortunately it didn't provide a definite solution for this problem either.
