when exporting a grid with cells containing '*', some of the columns are empty in excel.
any solutions ?

It is possible that this is happening because the (*) star is a special character in excel that is reserved for multiplication formulas.
I will need to do some research into this issue and will have an update for you on or before Thursday.
I did some testing where I had the asterix character '(*)' in my grid cells and upon exporting to excel, the asterix was imported to excel successfully.
Can you give me examples of grid cells per their contents that did not export to excel. Perhaps a screen image would be a nice visual aide.
Attached to this thread is my test sample. My sample is bound to Northwind. If you can modify this test sample such that it reproduces the issue, send back to me and I will do some further research into the issue.
Also of note is that the ig_res folder needed to be omitted due to file size constraints. For proper styling of the grid you will need to add it back in. You can do this by opening the aspx page in design view and selecting 'ok" for styling.
