I have this question in my mind for a long time.
At first I just wanted to know how can I find a perfect world map shp file me, then I realized I can find a shp file and edit it.
Now the problem with the shp file which can be found in xamWebMap sample is:
1. It's 5780 kb, too large to use in an internet site.
2. Some countries such as Canada, Norway, there are so many captions for them, I want to remove the ones far away from mainland.
Where can I find a free tool to edit the shp file and make it smaller?
you can find the answer to that question here: http://community.infragistics.com/forums/t/36936.aspx
another approach to solving the problem is here: http://community.infragistics.com/forums/t/30600.aspx
you can also visit our feature request page and offer your suggestions, or just enter a feature request for us to have the map detect and fix this condition somehow: http://devcenter.infragistics.com/protected/requestfeature.aspx
Do you know how to avoid so many duplicated captions on the map.
For example, in this picture, there are more than 10 captions for "Canada".

Took a quick look.
MapWindows GIS can be used to edit shp files.
Is there a recommended world map shp file I can use?
our help contains some information about shapefile creation and editing, but note the associated disclaimer.
