I have encountered over a half dozen bugs just downloading the install files onto my computer. Norton 360 would not allow the platform installer to install, then a few days later got the platform installer loaded - it kept failing downloads - so abandoned that path.
Never could get a download started from IE 9, but got one from Firefox. Took a number of tries over a few days, as would get errors from the infragistics server , and had to start from scratch, even with resume support.)
Alas, i got the complete download and am attempting to install the complete package, and the installer starts with asp.net,
I rebooted before the install, am not running any other programs, and gave the installer administrative status. I am installing from a local drive on a fast computer (quad) with a SSD disk that it is installing to, that just has development software on it. Windows Ultimate 7 with latest updates and IIS 7.5
But after several hours it is still at 0%, looking around i notice it is busy creating a log file that is currently close to 60MB
--Update - heh if finally finished asp.net installThis is the kind of performance you would get if someone was running a linq query on a remote database on millions of records using lots of joins all done one at a time in lazy execustion - even my virus scanner is faster than this - hey VS 2011 is an order of magnitude faster including the MDSN library, heck i could install the OS, Office Enterprise, Project Manager, VS ultimate, Photoshop, Web Expression, and utlilities and be faster than it takes for this to get to the 10% mark. I could probably run upgrade versions of all of them faster.Come On Infragistics - if there is a solid reason for this kind of install slowness - then give us some feedback - like this is going to take hours, and here is why, but enjoy all these fancy screen shots of what you can do in the interim.
For people new to Infragistics - please do not let this post put you off of their products, some of which are great (except for speed).
Now this has to be a record - i am 19% thorugh the install and i already have over 100MB in install logs in text file format (maybe there is a clue here). At this rate, should be finished by the morning with about 500 mb in logs, unless this is only a case of their asp.net team getting a bit too happy.
You know what they say - All good things come to those who wait, probably would have been a good slogan back in the days of Univac.
Ah - Windows forms went faster (seems like a paradigm). Noticed a pattern that the sample files seem to take the longest - examining the log it looks like every single file in a sample is being uncompressed and logged, rather than just working with directories or at least bigger chunks. We are now 4 hours in to the install at 67%.
For fun, i take a look at the resource monitor, on a hunch that each text log is being rewritten, rather than appended to. This is not the case, and it looks like a number of threads are being spawned and used appropriately - the mystery continues.
Well it went through the final third much quicker (about a half hour).
On a postive note (and a credit to the sheer size of the install)- looks like everything installed fine.
I am not really expecting a reply to this post from Infragistics, rather sharing an experience and saying i bet others are having simular ones.

We would like to give an update on this issue. Infragistics team has delivered an updated platform installer and bundled installers which has improved speed significantly for those who faced issues with performance during install. We still recommend users to download bundled packages who has slow internet connection or unstable internet connections.
Thank you for everyone who gave the feedback.
