Are you guys still developing this product? I am getting really nervous, as I have a substantial amount of code built on it.
I am concerned that your attention has shifted to other things... What are your plans for this product? Should we be migrating off of this product onto something else?
Hi Rob,
Thanks for being a long time customer. We released an ASP.NET SR on October 17th, so a few weeks ago. We are moving to a roughly 6 week cycle on SR's. We were a little late for a number of reasons this summer on SR's, but I think we are back on track. Sorry about the delays there. If there were any bugs that were not addressed, send me an email at jasonb@infragistics.com and I will get you an update.
For the ASP.NET product, YES, we are absolutely still investing in it, this is an important platform. One of the areas of focus for the last 2 releases was around the ASP.NET MVC story for the Ignite UI controls, so an ASP.NET developer can choose to build pure-client or they can choose the ASP.NET MVC route. We will continue to push a lot of features on the client / jQuery / MVC side w/ Ignite UI.
Now that we've hit critical mass on the MVC controls, you'll see more emphasis on features / controls for the ASP.NET server controls. I want to get some of the more interesting responsive layout UI (like the Layout Manager) over to ASP.NET, as well as the Map, improved Charting, Pivot Grid and more Data Grid features. You'll also see more / better samples on mobility / tablet experiences in the next release.
I'd love to hear what you'd like to see as well, let me know in this thread or over at ideas.infragistics.com.
I hope this helps, if not, let me know what other info provide,
Jason
Jason, I was unaware of the October service release, because I checked the ASP.Net Service Releases forum thread to find out if a release is available (and get release notes):
http://es.infragistics.com/community/forums/247.aspx
According to this thread, the last service release was June. As the forum thread is no longer being maintained, I recommend deleting the forum thread so that folks following it aren't confused... and then provide us with an alternate way to be notified of service releases. I really need a way to be notified via email with release notes as soon as each release is published.
In addition, the tool that you guys added to Visual Studio to check for updates does not detect that any new versions since .2069.
Jason, thank you for the thoughtful reply. We are locked into the WebForms model due to various factors, so the MVC improvements have been of minimal value.
I want to be able to build mostly client code with Ignite and your jQuery tools, but my interpretation of these tools is that they require you to be an MVC shop to use them effectively, so I have pretty much ignored them. Maybe this is an error? Do you have documentation on how to use these tools in a WebForms environment? About 6 months ago, I earnestly tried to find a way to quickly implement jQuery grid, populating from SQL, using WebForms, and couldn't figure out how to do it, and couldn't seem to find documentation on how to do it. Has the situation changed?
A responsive layout manager is interesting... We just redesigned our home page for responsive layout using Zurb Foundation, and are beginning work to redesign our application. I was set on Zurb Foundation, but I would be interested to see what your solution is. How soon will we be able to use it with ASP.Net?
