I got my newsreader, Outlook Express, to the point where I can read messages. However, I can't post.
The error message is
Posting is not allowed to the newsgroup 'infragistics.web_sites'. Please remove 'infragistics.web_sites' from your newsgroups line.
Of course, if you can get the new web forum tuned up to where it responds a lot faster, there would no longer be a reason to use a newsreader.
sounds like you haven't set the newsgroup reader to login using your member id and password.
See the post in this forum titled "Are new forums available to NewsReaders? " and the FAQ that it points to.
Hopefully that information will help you solve the problem
Regarding posting --
I followed the instructions. I also tried forums.infragistics.com, with the same result.
It took more than 5 seconds for the page to compose this message to come up. Also, with the old newsgroups setup, I was able to post attachments.
Aside from these issues, the Community Server setup is a great improvement.
I verified that I can log out of the main Infragistics site and then log in again using the same user name and password that is in the NNTP reader.
Hi again,
Just to confirm, the performance issues you're seeing are on the Web interface, correct? If so, what browser are you using? Do you have any plug-ins installed? (e.g., I'm wondering if it is network latency or maybe rendering time.) Do you know how to use Fiddler2?
You're the first I've seen to report serious perf issues, so we'll need to do more research on it probably and get back with you if we find anything.
Regarding authentication, can you try, e.g., Windows Live Mail Beta just to eliminate that it is client-specific?
Hi Ambrose,
Using IE7 and Windows XP with all updates.. No plug-ins other than Google toolbar that I know of. Don't have time to try Windows Live beta or fiddle with Fiddler 2.
I''m pretty sure that if someone at Infragistics QA tries to post using Outlook Express with my username and password, they will see the same thing that I see.
I feel your pain, man. I don't know how soon we could get someone to try it out, and honestly, I don't think it has anything to do with your profile (which is all we'd be testing logging in with your name). The more likely candidate is either a network or software constraint. I am posting this from home, for example, and am still not seeing the latency you describe.
We have folks using several different news readers, and lots of people, many of them Infragistics employees, reading and posting using the forums, and you're the first person to report such extreme slowness. I am not disputing your experience; I'm just trying to explain why I suspect it is not something we can duplicate.
By the way, you can attach stuff to posts using the Options tab. See attached image for what I mean.
I mentioned the credentials issue regarding the fact that I can read but not post via NNTP. I wasn't saying that my credentials would have anything to do with the slowness.
Regarding uploading images. When I look on the options tab, I see two checkboxes regarding replies, and a bunch of smilies

Okay, try now, please. It appears the Registered Users role didn't have attach permissions in CS. Not sure if that's default or not. Anyways, we (re-)enabled it, so you should be able to attach now. We also decided to enable inline images to see how it goes with that. Hope this helps.
